US Secretary of State cancels Middle East visit to join Syria meeting

US Secretary of State John Kerry on Monday decided to cancel a 5th visit to the Middle East to attend the emergency meeting on Syria of the White House security team. One of the discussion topics is US weapon supply for Syria opposition forces. The high-level meeting on Syria does not indicate that US government has evidence of chemical weapon use in Syria or US readiness for a response measure. The outcome of the meeting may lead to the US’s direct weapon supply or distribution of weapons to Syria opposition forces. An unnamed US authority said that the topic of weapon supply for Syria’s opposition forces was discussed many times in recent months. Last week, US Foreign Ministry announced the plan for US Secretary of State John Kerry to visit Israel and Palestine to persuade both sides to resume peace talks. The visit should have been taken place on Tuesday and Wednesday.
