US special envoy urges North Korea to resume nuclear talks

(VOVWORLD) - US special representative for North Korea Sung Kim renewed his call for the resumption of nuclear dialogue with Pyongyang on Monday, saying he will stand ready to meet with his North Korean counterpart anywhere and at any time.

After meeting with senior South Korean diplomat Noh Kyu-duk, Kim reiterated that the Biden administration has no hostile intent toward the North and that the US-South Korea joint drills are routine in nature.

Talks between the US and North Korea have stalled since the collapse of a summit between former President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in 2019, when the Americans rejected the North’s demand for a major easing of economic sanctions in exchange for a partial reduction of its nuclear capabilities.
