Vu said that since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnamese authorities have comprehensively directed the pandemic prevention and control, including the implementation of the vaccine strategy. He added that Vietnam will try to access more vaccine mechanisms by year end.

“First and foremost, we urge partners who have committed to increasing vaccines and the major suppliers of the COVAX mechanism. We ask them to increase their allotments and deliver more doses to us as soon as possible. In the meantime, we will negotiate with partners who are able to share doses with Vietnam and try to secure multiple vaccine sources, as well as help in vaccine production, technology transfer, storage and inoculation facilities, and COVID-19 drugs,” said Mr. Vu.

Vietnam has so far negotiated deals to secure 130 million doses, enough to inoculate 70% of its population. 10 million doses are likely to arrive in Vietnam in July and August.
