(VOVworld)-Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has returned to Hanoi after participating at the fourth Japan-Mekong Summit in Tokyo . Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son said that the Vietnamese delegation had contributed important initiatives to boost Mekong - Japan cooperation and the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Japan . On addressing the event, PM Dung confirmed Vietnam ’s support for Mekong-Japan Co-operation and the role it plays in the prosperity, stability and development of the Mekong region and East Asia . PM Dung underlined the priorities given to specific activities, including the completion of cross border traffic corridors and multimodal transport development to facilitate regional trade and traffic, especially along the East West Economic Corridor. Deputy Minister Bui Thanh Son said Vietnam ’s contribution was highly appreciated by Mekong regional and Japanese leaders:“The Prime Minister has suggested further development in waterways transport to save up cost and gain benefit from topographic conditions in the Mekong region. This will ease the burden on road and sea transport facilities while facilitating trade and tourism within and outside the Mekong countries.”
The Prime Minister also called for more priority measures in coping with floods, natural disasters and salinity levels in the region, ensuring food security and seeking long-term solutions for sustainably using the Mekong Rivers water resources.
