(VOVworld) - More than 300 regional small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are taking part in the 2015 ASEAN SME Showcase and Conference (ASSC) in Malaysia’s capital Kuala Lumpur.

Prior to the event’s opening ceremony on Tuesday, a ministerial-level discussion of building an ASEAN SME community was held by Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand and Laos, in Malaysia.

Nguyen Cam Tu, Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, said that the Vietnamese government is fully aware of the importance of SMEs to the establishment of a common ASEAN market by the end of this year.  

Laws addressing opportunities and challenges facing SMEs, such as the Law to support SMEs in 2016, have been proposed to the National Assembly for approval.
