Vietnam attends Global Leaders' Meeting on Women in Beijing

(VOVWORLD) -Leaders of States, Governments, and women's organizations from 110 countries around the world are attending the Global Leaders' Meeting on Women in Beijing, China, under the theme “One Shared Future: New & Accelerated Process for Women's All-round Development.”

The meeting marks the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action on Gender Equality in 1995.

Nguyen Thi Tuyen, President of the Vietnam Women's Union, led the Vietnamese delegation to the meeting. In her address, Ms. Tuyen shared the efforts and achievements that Vietnam has made in promoting gender equality and empowering women.

She cited improvement in the gender equality index, the proportion of women in the scientific research rising to 44%, and the proportion of female National Assembly deputies to 30%.

Proposing ways to effectively implement the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the Vietnamese representative called on all countries need to make efforts for peace and stability, which are prerequisites for the development and advancement of women.

She stressed the need to increase exchanges and dialogues for further understanding, boost gender equality in line with common goals, and respond to rapid changes in the new situation, so that women can contribute more and more to peace, stability and sustainable development of each country.

Vietnam believes that with solidarity and determination, the international community will continue to realize the vision of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, towards a world of peace and sustainable development, where all women and girls are respected, protected and empowered for all-round development, Tuyen said.
