Vietnam braced for super typhoon Mangkhut

(VOVWORLD) - The Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Response held an online conference on Friday to discuss response measures to super typhoon Mangkhut, which is forecast to hit the northern mainland of Vietnam next Monday and Tuesday.

Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong, who is Head of the Committee, chaired the meeting which connects cities and provinces in the northern and north-central regions.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHF), by Saturday morning, Mangkhut will move to an area, 530km from the Philippines' Luzon Island. It will retain the wind speed of 200 – 220 km per hour. From Saturday to Sunday, the super typhoon will move northwest to arrive at the Tonkin Gulf.

The Committee asked relevant agencies and localities to work closely to respond to the typhoon. The Voice of Vietnam, Vietnam Television, and other media agencies are asked to increase coverage of the typhoon and popularize response measures.
