Vietnam, China open new chapter in bilateral relations

(VOVWORLD) -Chinese Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping on Wednesday concluded a state visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Vo Van Thuong.

During the visit, Chinese Party leader and President Xi laid a wreath and paid homage at the Mausoleum of President Ho Chi Minh; held talks with Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong and President Vo Van Thuong; and met with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.

The two Party General Secretaries attended an exchange between intellectuals and young people of Vietnam and China. A total of 36 cooperation documents were signed between the two countries’ ministries, agencies, and localities. The two sides issued a joint statement on continuing to deepen and elevate their comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and building the Vietnam-China community of shared future that carries strategic significance.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said, "One of the most basic and important directions of Vietnam-China cooperation affirmed in the Joint Statement is consolidating a stronger social foundation. The deep and sincere aspirations of the two peoples for friendship, peace, cooperation and development are a source of great strength and a solid foundation for the belief in the bright future of the relationship between two brotherly neighboring countries on the path of building socialism."

At the meeting with President Vo Van Thuong, Party General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping underlined the inheritance of the common will of previous generations of leaders, stemming from the long-term development of China-Vietnam relations. He expressed his hope that the two sides, especially the young generation, will join hands to promote China-Vietnam community of shared future, bringing benefits to their peoples.

Xi Jinping’s fruitful visit to Vietnam not only helps strengthen trust between senior leaders of the two Parties, states and peoples but also creates a strong momentum to open a new phase in bilateral relations. The remarkable socio-economic development achievements of China and Vietnam today have been proving that their chosen development path is completely correct and that the two countries’ strengthened solidarity and cooperation will be beneficial to the development of each country.
