Vietnam confirms upcoming visits by Japanese destroyer, American aircraft carrier

(VOVWORLD) - At a regular press conference on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the information that the US aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan will be present in Vietnam's territorial waters this weekend.

According to the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson Pham Thu Hang, the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan will visit Da Nang city from June 25 to June 30.

Responding to reporters’ question about the role of the visit amid recent developments in the East Sea,  Ms. Hang said the visit of the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan to Vietnam is an ordinary friendly exchange activity aimed at maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

The last visit by a US aircraft carrier to Vietnam was in March 2020 when the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt and the USS Bunker Hill docked at Da Nang port.

The visit is to celebrate the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the US and Vietnam.

Hang confirmed that a Japanese destroyer will visit Cam Ranh, Khanh Hoa from June 20 to June 23.
