(VOVworld)- Vietnam’s National Assembly has presented 1,000 tonnes of rice as a special gift to those Cambodian people affected by recent floods. Addressing the presentation ceremony at the Cambodian National Assembly’s headquarter in Phnompenh on Wednesday, the Vietnamese ambassador to Cambodia Ngo Anh Dung extended condolences to the bereaved and expressed his belief that Cambodia would soon overcome the consequences of the floods and return to stability. The Cambodian National Assembly Chairman Heng Samrin noted that the gift testified to the fraternal solidarity as well as the spirit of mutual assistance between the two nations: “The aid arrived at the right time as the Cambodian people are in urgent need for rice to overcome shortages caused by the flood. This gift, as well as previous gifts from the Vietnamese people, are invaluable because they demonstrate the love, solidarity and friendship between Vietnamese and Cambodian people”.

Subsequent floods over the past months have claimed 80 lives and caused huge property damage worth approximately 1 billion USD.
