Vietnam, New Zealand foster deeper, more comprehensive relations

(VOVWORLD) - State President Luong Cuong has highlighted the significance of the official visit to Vietnam by New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon in the elevation of bilateral ties.

During a reception for PM Luxon in Hanoi on Wednesday, President Cuong stated that the upgrade of the bilateral relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership opens up a new chapter for collaboration, fostering deeper and more comprehensive relations between the two countries both bilaterally and multilaterally.

He thanked New Zealand for increasing scholarships for Vietnamese students by 56% and called for continued support in technology transfer, and expert and high-quality personnel training.

PM Luxon praised Vietnam's strong development in recent years and noted his desire to further strengthen cooperation with the country. He reaffirmed New Zealand’s backing for Vietnam’s role as APEC 2027 host.

The two leaders agreed that upgrading the relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is just the beginning and that Vietnam and New Zealand share common perspectives and a unified vision on regional and global issues.

Both sides were committed to close coordination and mutual support at regional and international forums, including the UN, APEC, ASEAN, and ASEAN-led mechanisms.

On this occasion, President Cuong asked PM Luxon to convey his invitation to New Zealand Governor-General Cindy Kiro to visit Vietnam, while PM Luxon conveyed an invitation from the Governor-General to the Vietnamese leader to visit New Zealand.
