(VOVworld)- On July 7, 2013, a Chinese ship No 306 chased and overwhelmed 2 fishing vessels QNg 96787 TS and QNg 90153 TS in the Hoang Sa (Paracel) island area of Vietnam. Many crew from the Chinese vessel boarded the Vietnamese fishing vessels, attacked fishermen, smashed and stole some property from the ship. On Thursday, in response to reporters’ queries about this incident, the spokesperson for the Vietnam’s Foreign Ministry Luong Thanh Nghi said:“This act violated Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago, Vietnam’s sovereignty and jurisdiction rights in the East Sea and ran counter to the spirit of humane treatment of fishermen, international law and the spirit of the Agreement on Fundamental Principles Guiding the Settlement of Sea-related issues between Vietnam and China as well as the Declaration on Conduct of Parties in East Sea. A representative of the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry met with a representative from the Chinese Embassy in Hanoi to complain about the incident and asking China to seriously investigate and strictly deal with this illegal act as well as adequately compensate the Vietnamese fishermen and prevent the recurrence of similar acts”.
