Vietnam proposes key directions for APEC cooperation

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnamese President Luong Cuong proposed five key directions for regional cooperation during the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in the Republic of Korea on Saturday.

He called on APEC members to develop a shared strategic vision for an innovation ecosystem and to play a pioneering role in digital economy and AI governance, focusing on the establishment of common standards and rules to balance business development and citizens’ rights, social progress, and equal opportunities among economies.

President Cuong emphasized the need to build a sustainable, synchronized infrastructure and a safe, reliable digital ecosystem to support regional digital economic growth.

Its necessary to build a safe and trustworthy digital ecosystem, define a common regulatory framework for data security, ensure transparent and secure data flows, and protect digital infrastructure against cyber risks. Above all, mutual trust, trust in win-win cooperation, is the key for us to advance to a dynamic, modern, safe, happy, and prosperous future for all people in Asia-Pacific,” said Mr. Cuong.

APEC leaders adopted the Gyeongju Declaration, reaffirming their strong commitment to fostering new growth drivers, unlocking APEC’s potential and strengths, and working toward an open, dynamic, resilient, and peaceful Asia-Pacific community for the prosperity of all people and future generations.

They also endorsed the APEC Artificial Intelligence Initiative and the APEC Framework for Cooperation on Demographic Change. The next APEC meeting will be hosted by China in 2026.
