(VOVWORLD) - Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations (UN) has hailed the results of the UN summit on the sustainable use of seas and oceans.

At the 27th meeting of parties to the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) in New York on Thursday, Ambassador Nga said the East Sea is of vital importance to peace, security, and development in the region and the world.
She stressed Vietnam has actively cooperated with other countries through bilateral and multilateral forums such as ASEAN, ARF, and APEC on marine environment protection, scientific research, security and safety of maritime navigation and aviation, search and rescue, response to climate change and emergencies, combating transnational crimes, and piracy. Vietnam is cooperating closely with others in the region to implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and to develop the Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC), Ambassador Nga said.
She added that Vietnam calls on all parties to refrain from actions that may escalate tensions in the region, to respect legal and diplomatic processes, to settle disputes by peaceful means in line with international law, and to fully and effectively implement the DOC and complete as soon as possible the COC.
