Vietnam releases second periodic report on implementation of Convention against Torture

(VOVWORLD) - The Ministry of Public Security on Friday announced Vietnam's second periodic report under the Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman, or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CAT).

Major General Nguyen Van Ky, Deputy Director of the Ministry’s Department of Foreign Relations emphasized that preparing and defending the report reflects Vietnam’s commitment and efforts in fulfilling its obligations as a member of CAT.

He stressed the importance of popularizing the report and Vietnam’s achievements in ensuring human rights during the implementation of the Convention. 

Patrick Haverman, Deputy Resident Representative of the UNDP in Vietnam, commended Vietnam for the effective implementation of the Convention and  recommendations by the Committee Against Torture. He said the UNDP will continue supporting Vietnam in defending the CAT report.
