Vietnam, Singapore issue joint statement

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam and Singapore on Wednesday issued a joint statement on the occasion of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s official visit to Singapore at the invitation of Singaporean PM Lee Hsien Loong.

The statement said the prime ministers praised the cooperation between the two countries in economics, capacity building, defense, security, culture, and people exchanges, adding that they believe bilateral strategic relations will enter a new stage of development.

The prime ministers said trade and investment cooperation is an important pillar in bilateral relations, underlining the importance of building a favorable business environment through the implementation of law, increasing business links, and quickly resolving business problems. They hailed the cooperation between the two countries in agriculture, forestry, and seafood, and agreed to promote trade, investment, and business links in agriculture. Both sides agreed to increase people exchanges and exploit the potential of aviation connectivity toward the liberalization of the aviation agreement.

The prime ministers agreed to coordinate closely and support each other in international forums and affirmed the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the region. They underlined the importance of resolving disputes by peaceful means and respecting diplomatic and legal process in accordance with international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
