Vietnam stresses importance of promoting transitional period in South Sudan

(VOVWORLD) - Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, head of Vietnam’s mission to the UN, underlined the importance of promoting the transitional period and fully implementing the peace agreement in South Sudan during the UN Security Council’s online meeting Tuesday on South Sudan’s situation and activities of the UN Mission there (UNMISS).

Mr. Quy praised recent progress in South Sudan and the transitional government’s efforts to fight COVID-19. He sympathised with the difficulty of carrying out the peace agreement during a pandemic, and praised the role played by the UN, UNMISS, and the African Union in promoting peace in South Sudan. Reiterating Vietnam’s support for UNMISS, Ambassador Quy described the efforts of Vietnam’s level-2 field hospital in Bentiu city to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic.

UN Security Council members urged all parties in South Sudan to honor the peace and ceasefire agreements.
