Prof. Dr. Do Quyet, Director of the Academy, said at a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam that the second test injection of phase 2 human trial will be finished by the end of April.

“With this progress, at the end of June and the beginning of July we can submit to the Medical Ethics Council of the Ministry of Health for approval of phase 3 trial, a crucial stage of assessing possible licensing for a broader inoculation. The time duration can be shortened, but the scientific and safety factors will still be ensured,” said Mr. Quyet.

Phase 3 could test 10,000 people, 5,000 to be vaccinated with AstraZeneca and 5,000 with Nanocovax, he said.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, Head of the National Steering Committee for the COVID-19 Prevention and Control, visited the Military Medical Academy and encouraged researchers and volunteers, who have been injected the second dose, phase 2  trial of vaccine Nanocovax.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the policy of maximizing the research and production of vaccines in Vietnam in accordance with regulations and standards. It’s urgent to secure locally-made vaccine, not skip any stages, and meet scientific conditions, he said.

Vietnam began human trials of Nanocovax on December 17, 2020. Nanocovax jointly developed by Nanogen Company and the Military Medical Academy is Vietnam's first COVID-19 vaccine in a clinical trial in humans.
