(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam will update its immigration policy for foreigners based on the pandemic situation and promote COVID-19 vaccine passport recognition.

Vietnamese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Le Thi Thu Hang told reporters in a regular press briefing on Thursday, 'To achieve the twin target of pandemic control and economic development, the government has agreed with the Foreign Ministry’s proposal for immigration policy update roadmap and quarantine measures for foreigners with vaccination certificates or vaccine passport. We have cooperated with the Ministry of Health and relevant agencies to research and propose more convenience for immigration on a mutual recognition basis based on the pandemic situation.'

The spokeswoman said that Vietnam has worked with the US and the Covax Facility to receive more vaccines from the US and the United Nations schemes. Vietnam will also sign agreement with Russia to the assembling line of Sputnik V vaccine with up to 5 million doses per month in July towards technology transfer to produce 100 million doses per year.
