Vietnamese cinema to shine in North Africa

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam is invited to be a guest of honor at the 5th Imedghassen International Film Festival in Batna, Algeria, from September 10-16.

In its Sunday edition, the daily newspaper El Moudjahid said that the participating Vietnamese films will give Algerian audiences an opportunity to discover a cinema rich in humanity, poetic expression, and deeply rooted in the nation’s history.

For many decades Vietnamese cinema was shaped and developed in the context of war and the aspiration for independence, according to the article.

Works such as “Hanoi Girl” (1975) and “When the Tenth Month Comes” (1984) left a profound mark and contributed to defining the identity of Vietnam’s national cinema. Today, a new generation of directors continues to bring fresh perspectives on Vietnam, the newspaper said.
