Vietnamese culture promoted in Czech Republic

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnamese culture and customs are being introduced in Prague as part of a project called “Foreigners in the Czech Republic and their cultures”.

Head of the project Kristyna Hlavata said not many Czech people understand the Vietnamese culture and customs though Vietnamese people are considered an official minority in the Czech Republic.

"For me, the Vietnamese community living in the Czech Republic is quite reserved, except for those born and raised here. I hope this project will improve the Czech people’s understanding of Vietnamese customs and habits, and bridge the gap between the two peoples," she said.

The highlight of the program has been a presentation on Vietnam’s ethnic groups, and their culture, rituals, customs, festivals, and daily lives. Participants discussed Vietnamese people’s work and study in the Czech Republic. Christina Drechslerova of Prague said: "Before this event, I knew nothing about Vietnam or the Vietnamese community living here. Now I know how they celebrate International Children’s Day and the New Year."
