The first plenary session of the 14th National Assembly opened on July 20th, 2016.

The meeting has attracted the attention of voters nationwide, according to Pham Xuan Toan of Tran Yen district in Yen Bai province. Toan said he hopes “at the first session the legislature will elect state leaders qualified in both talent and virtue to lead and develop the nation. I do hope that NA deputies will contribute more to the national development, to international integration, and especially to national defense so that people can be secure for economic development. More attention needs to be paid to social security for revolutionary contributors, the elderly, and the disabled.”

Ngo Tri Long of Cau Giay district, Hanoi, said he felt glad at the requirements set by Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong at the opening ceremony: “The National Assembly is a legislative body in charge of drawing up institutions and making laws. Voters nationwide expect that promulgated laws will be practical. We need laws that limit special interest groups that might cause losses for the state, or for society. Voters have high hopes for the NA’s determination to fight corruption,” said Long.

Voters across Vietnam voiced their hope that deputies elected to the NA and People’s Councils will carry out the action plans and fulfill promises they made and perform their duty as representatives of the people by honestly and fully conveying voters’ ideas, requests, and aspirations to the NA and State agencies.
