Several governments have pledged more political and material support for the Syrian National Coalition (SNC), which the West considers the sole legitimate representative of the Syrian people. In a joint statement, 11 countries attending the international conference of the so-called “Friends of Syria” in Rome on Thursday called for an immediate halt to arms supplies to the Bashar al-Assad government.

US Secretary of State John Kerry promised that the US will provide the Syrian opposition 60 million USD in non-military aid such as food and medicine.
