WHO members call for solidarity in fighting COVID-19

(VOVWORLD) - The World Health Organization (WHO) is irreplaceable and needs enhanced resources to help developing countries face the devastating impact of COVID-19, UN chief Antonio Guterres said.

Addressing the virtual opening of the 73rd World Health Assembly on Monday, Guterres said some countries have ignored the recommendations of the WHO in fighting the coronavirus epidemic.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said Monday that the WHO welcomes an independent review of its handling of the pandemic at the earliest appropriate moment and urged countries to continue funding the organization.

According to worldometers.info, COVID-19 has infected nearly 4.9 million people. Reported deaths have surpassed 320,000. 1.9 million people have recovered after treatment.
