A WHO report released on Tuesday said that the number of Ebola cases could increase from hundreds to thousands per week. The report indicates that by November 2, the number of Ebola infections will triple to more than 20,000 cases: 6,000 in Guinea, 10,000 in Liberia, and 5,000 in Sierra Leone. By the beginning of next year the total number of infections could reach hundreds of thousands. Christopher Dye, WHO Strategic Director and the report’s author, said he was afraid that Ebola could live within the human body.
The latest statistics from the WHO Emergency Committee on Ebola reveal that the epidemic has killed 2,811 people out of nearly 5,900 infections. The UN is trying to raise 1 billion USD to help countries stop the outbreak.
