Trinh Dinh Nang’s environmental protection invention

(VOVworld) - Hundreds of tons of medical waste are discharged into the environment each year. If not properly treated, it is a serious threat to public health. Mechanic Trinh Dinh Nang of Nong Thuong commune, Bac Kan town has invented a medical waste treatment system with the trademark HTL. His invention is acknowledged by the Department of Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Science and Technology to be an effective and economical way to deal with environmental pollution.

Trained at the Viet Bac steel technology workers school in the 1970s, Trinh Dinh Nang has designed a number of mechanical parts and gold extracting machines. His medical incinerator is his latest invention.

"After visiting several hospitals, we realized that if medical waste is not properly treated, it will be a source of infectious diseases. So I did some research and invented this system. 10 years ago, I established a thermal research center. Since then, I’ve done a lot of additional research," Nang said.

Nang’s medical waste treatment system uses closed nano technology equipment to completely disintegrate noxious smoke, dust, and odors. The system includes an engine, an incinerator, and a smoke and dust processor. The biggest advantage of the system is that rubbish is completely disintegrated.
"This is a complete system which will operate when we connect it to electricity, water, and a small tank to treat the water.  The system uses a new uninterrupted furnace technology which focuses the fire. The temperature at the incinerator’s center can reach 1,800 degrees Celsius. The time required for waste treatment is quite short," Nang eleborated.

According to the Ministry of Science and Technology, Nang’s medical waste treatment system is the first in Vietnam to meet the Ministry’s standard, using 80% less fuel than imported incinerators. It takes only 5,000 VND of diesel fuel to treat 1 kilo of rubbish - 2,000 VND of fuel if waste oil is used. Incinerators imported from the US, Japan, and England cost 70,000 to 80,000 VND to treat 1 kilo of waste. Trinh Dinh Nang’s company is now producing incinerators with a capacity to treat up to 500 kilos per hour. Do Tuan Khiem, Head of Bac Kan’s Department of Science and Technology praised the product.

"This system uses advanced technology with high capacity and low cost. It has been used in several  hospitals and seen success," Khiem said.

The success of his medical treatment system has encouraged Nang to continue seeking better urban waste treatment solutions.
