(VOVWORLD) - In recent years a housing program called “Trade union houses” has been deployed by the Labor Federation of Yen Bai province.

La Ngoc Son and his family recently moved into a spacious, solid house in Yen Thinh ward. For Son, this is a dream come true because his family is poor and his children are still small. The family depends mainly on Son's salary as a worker.

Last year Yen Bai city’s Labor Federation and the Yen Bai Transport Construction Company, where Son works, gave him enough money to build a small house.

He told VOV, “With our current income, it would take us 10 to 15 years to save enough money to build a house. We’re grateful to the authorities for helping us build this house.”

Hoang Van Hai of Dong Quan commune, Luc Yen district, also got a new house in May. Hai, who works for the Hapaco Yen Son Company, was living with his seriously ill parents in a dilapidated wooden house that leaked in the rainy season.

The Yen Bai provincial Labor Federation and the trade unions of the Yen Son company and provincial industrial parks helped Hai build a new house worth 6,400 USD.

“The house is very important to me. It gives my ailing parents better shelter from the rain and sun. Having this house gives me greater confidence to think about getting married,” said Hai.

La Ngoc Son and Hoang Van Hai are just two of the disadvantaged members who have received housing support from the Yen Bai provincial Labor Federation and trade unions this year. Over the past 5 years, the trade union has raised more than 280,000 USD and built 100 houses for its members.

Yen Bai has 42,000 trade union members, many of them in difficult economic circumstances. The province has provided emergency support to 5,000 union members, and has given 17,000 gift sets worth hundreds of thousands of USD to students in mountain areas and the children of poor workers.

Nguyen Van Hong, Chairman of the Trade Union of the Yen Bai Transport Construction Company, said that 10 houses have been built for union members.

“We will continue to support employees in difficult circumstances by working with the company’s leaders in designing and implementing payroll, labor norms, salary, and bonus regulations,” said Hong.

He pledged that the union will do the utmost to address issues related to the rights and obligations of employees to help them feel secure in their work so they’ll stay with the company for a long time.

Nguyen Chuong Phat, Chairman of the provincial Labor Federation, said, “We will focus on mobilizing resources to provide housing for disadvantaged union members to encourage them to increase their productivity and help make Yen Bai a green, harmonious, and happy province.”
