(VOVWORLD) - 17 Vietnamese enterprises have been given the Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs) Award 2024 of the UN Women in collaboration with the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI).

The award was in recognition of their innovative initiatives and positive contributions to promoting gender equality in enterprises, in the market, and in the community, towards prosperity and sustainable development in Vietnam.
VCCI Vice President Nguyen Quang Vinh, said that equality and prosperity are not only goals, but also driving forces for sustainable development of businesses and society. The UN Women’s WEPs Awards is a testament to the continuous efforts of businesses and individuals in promoting gender equality and building a fair and progressive business environment.
“Vietnam has realized its strong commitment in implementing gender equality and sustainable development goals and ensuring harmonious development between economy, society, and the environment. Along with the government’s efforts, VCCI is working with partners, including the UN Women, ministries, sectors, and international organizations, in implementing programs to help women start their own businesses and promote responsible business and compliance with policies on gender equality and inclusive development,” said Vinh.
The 2024 Women's Empowerment Principles Award includes 6 categories: Leadership commitment, gender-inclusive workplace, gender-responsive marketplace, community engagement and partnerships, transparency and reporting, and innovative financing.
To date, 222 enterprises in Vietnam and more than 10,000 enterprises worldwide have committed to implementing WEPs.
