COVID-19 vaccine trial: 367 volunteers receive jabs

(VOVWORLD) - Nano Covax, the first Vietnamese-made COVID-19 vaccine has been injected for 367 volunteers, one week after Phase 2 of vaccine trial began. The Military Medical Academy and the Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City, which are conducting the  trial, said 65% of the injection test have been completed in this stage.

Volunteers were given two shots of COVID-19 Nano Covax vaccine, 28 days apart. The research team did not report any anomalous reaction from the volunteers after the injection.

80 volunteers over 60 years old will participate in Phase 2 trial of Nano Covax. 800 people have registered for the screening, the oldest is 74 years old.

By the end of March and early April 2021, there will be 560 volunteers fully vaccinated with 2 doses of Nano Covax vaccine. By May, the research team will report the data to the National Ethics Council for Biomedical Research, before moving on to phase 3 of a multinational trial involving 10,000-15,000 volunteers.

The Nano Covax clinical trial process is expected to be completed by the end of 2021. Once licensed, the Nano Covax vaccine which will cost 120,000 VND (5 USD) per dose will be produced at 50-70 million doses a year.

Vietnam began injection of its first homegrown COVID-19 vaccine human trial on December 17, 2020.
