COVIVAC’s initial test proves effective against SARS-CoV-2 virus variant
(VOVWORLD) - Nano Covax, Vietnam’s first locally-produced COVID-19 vaccine, has elicited a host of antibodies against the variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus which originates from the UK.

The Institute of Vaccines and Medical Biologicals (IVAC) today said initial test of its COVIVAC vaccines also proves to be effective against the variant B.1.1.7 from the UK. If it successes, a dose of COVIVAC will cost about 2.5 USD. COVIVAC is Vienam’s second coronavirus vaccine to be tested on human in March and is scheduled to complete in October.
Vingroup Innovation Foundation Saturday gave 870,000 USD to the Institute of Vaccines and Medical Biologicals for human trials of COVIVAC.
Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long said: “We appreciate Vingroup’s contribution to epidemic prevention effort to protect public health. We also hail the Institute of Vaccines and Medical Biologicals for pushing ahead with the research of COVIVAC vaccine, which is produced by Vietnam and in compliance with the WHO standards. The WHO has acknowledged that Vietnamese hospitals are capable to produce vaccines in case of a global pandemic.”
