Vu Anh Quang, Director of the Department of International Organizations, of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said Vietnam has always strongly opposed torture and mistreatment of human beings. Joining this Convention and implementing the 6 UN Conventions on human rights shows Vietnam’s consistent policy of respecting, protecting, and promoting human rights in line with international norms.
Mr. Quang said: “The implementation of the Convention involves laws and communications to improve people’s understanding and requires the involvement of individuals, organizations, and functional agencies. The conference is designed to help the government and society implement the Convention.”

Vietnam signed the UN Convention against Torture last November and the Vietnamese National Assembly ratified the Convention at its 8th session last month.
