Russian version of the Tale of Kieu released

(VOVworld) - The Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences and the central province of Ha Tinh's People's Committee have launched a Vietnamese-Russian edition of the Tale of Kieu on Friday. The release of the book aims to mark the 250th birth anniversary of prominent Vietnamese poet Nguyen Du, who was born in 1766.

The translation project comprised Russian and Vietnamese translators, including experts in Vietnamese and Russian studies, such as MA of Literature Nguyen Huy Hoang, translators Doan Tu Huyen and Vu The Khoi, poet Vasili Popov and Associate Professor of Linguistics Anatoli Socolov.

Dr Nguyen Huy Hoang was speaking in the launching ceremony: “The book was translated in a short time and its Russian version cannot be perfect. We expect to hear from readers’ comments to improve the version in later publications.

I hope that the Tale of Kieu will reach Russian people as a bridge between the two countries’ culture on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Russia”.
Poet Vasili Popov compared Nguyen Du to Puskin, saying that the Russian version is a precious gift to the year of Vietnamese culture in Russia.
