Vietnam actively contributes to UN Human Rights Council

(VOVWORLD) - The 57th regular session of the UN Human Rights Council concluded on Friday in Geneva, Switzerland, with Vietnam's active engagement and contributions, including chairing several initiatives and co-sponsoring many others.

The Council adopted the outcomes of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR)'s fourth cycle for Vietnam. Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Do Hung Viet delivered his opening remarks at an international seminar on integrating human rights education into education system, co-sponsored by Vietnam, the Philippines, Australia and Italy.

Vietnam also chaired the drafting and presentation of the Joint Statement on promoting the human right to vaccination, with 53 countries from all continents sponsoring it to date.

Surya Deva, UN Special Rapporteur on the right to development, talked with countries on his activities over the past year, including his visit to Vietnam last November. He praised the Vietnamese Government's efforts in economic development, job creation, and expanding social security coverage.

During the session, the Vietnamese delegation emphasized its commitment to promoting and protecting human rights for all. They shared the measures Vietnam has implemented to support vulnerable groups and stressed the importance of addressing political divisions and differences, promoting cooperation, and building trust through dialogue.         

Vietnam’s participation in the 57th session of the UN Human Rights Council showcased Vietnam's efforts and commitment in its second year as a member of the council for the 2023-2025 term.
