Vietnam received 180 votes, the highest number in the Asia-Pacific group, and is the only country in the region serving as a current member (2023–2025) to be re-elected for the next term (2026–2028).
The result reflects the UN member states’ strong confidence in Vietnam’s commitment and tireless efforts to promote and protect human rights, as well as its active contributions and initiatives during its ongoing 2023–2025 tenure.
It also demonstrates the international community’s trust in Vietnam’s open foreign policy, its active role in multilateral mechanisms, achievements in international integration, and its growing reputation as a responsible, reliable partner for peace, cooperation, and sustainable development.
During its third term as a UNHRC member, Vietnam will continue advancing eight priority areas, including enhancing the efficiency of the UN Human Rights Council’s operations, ensuring human rights amid climate change and digital transformation; promoting gender equality; protecting vulnerable groups; upholding the right to health and the right to work; and advancing human rights education and the right to education.
Vietnam will continue to contribute to the international community’s collective efforts to address global human rights concerns, guided by the principles of “Respect and Understanding – Dialogue and Cooperation – All Human Rights for All.”
Vietnam’s 2026–2028 term on the UN Human Rights Council will officially begin on January 1, 2026.
