The MoU signing was within the framework of the WIPO chief’s working visit to Vietnam and during his talks with Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung.

The MoU will prioritize fine-tuning policies, laws and strategies on intellectual property; boosting the international registration system; and enhancing capacity for small and medium-sized enterprises and startups. It will bolster cooperation between institutes, schools and enterprises to commercialize intellectual property; promote education and training, and raise public awareness. Other priorities include supporting the Intellectual Property Office in applying digitalization, AI and establishing a mechanism for conciliation and dispute resolution.

WIPO Director General Daren Tang said the signing of the MoU will open a new chapter of cooperation between Vietnam and WIPO amid the global trend shifting from "rights protection" to "commercialization of intellectual property rights", and Vietnam strengthening investment in research and development (R&D) with initial achievements.

The Director General said that WIPO is committed to working with Vietnam in realizing Resolution 57 on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation, creating a future-oriented knowledge economy for Vietnam.
