Vietnam has become a leading agriculture exporter and a very attractive destination for foreign direct investment in Asia. Vietnam’s economy plays a role in the region, and in the world. Mr. Azevedo said that during his visit to Vietnam he will meet with government officials, business representatives and academics to see how the WTO can help Vietnam’s development. He said that since Vietnam joined the WTO in 2007 a number of reforms have been introduced that made a big difference. He said Vietnam is on the right path. It has developed a network of trade agreements including the important Trans-Pacific Partnership, so the efforts are paying off. He said Vietnam and the WTO need to discuss Vietnam’s future plans and what the WTO can do to help Vietnam realize those plans.
