Vietnam has completed two-thirds of its journey to implement the 13th National Party Congress’s Resolution, amid rapid and complex changes and numerous challenges in the region and the world. The tasks ahead are immense, requiring concerted efforts and solidarity from the entire Party, the army, and the people to ensure success.

The Party's special attention to the role of the people

The Vietnam Fatherland Front’s mandate is uniting the masses. President Ho Chi Minh once stressed that national unity holds strategic importance and is key to the revolution's success. Over its 90-year history, since the formation of the Anti-Imperialist Alliance—the first iteration of the Vietnam National United Front—the Front has been instrumental in fostering national unity, a vital element in securing the victories of the Vietnamese revolution and establishing new historical milestones.

In 2013, for the first time, the Constitution officially recognized the Vietnam Fatherland Front's role in representing the people's legitimate and legal interests. It also marked the introduction of the Front's oversight and critical roles, signifying a major step forward in the country's democratic process and in cementing the Vietnam Fatherland Front's position in fostering social consensus for national development.

A decade later, in 2023, the Politburo elevated the status of the Party Delegation of the Vietnam Fatherland Front from affiliating with the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat to affiliating directly with the Party Politburo. Only the Party Delegations of the National Assembly, the Committee for Party Affairs of the Government, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front are under the Politburo. This shows the heightened importance of the Front's mission in the current revolutionary period.

In 2023, the Party Central Committee issued Resolution No. 43 calling for the continued promotion of the tradition and strengthening national unity to build a prosperous and happy nation. The resolution assigns the Vietnam Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations the core political role in mobilizing and uniting people in realizing the aspiration of building a strong, developed country with happy and wealthy people.

These strategic initiatives underscore the Party's emphasis on the people's role, while the Vietnam Fatherland Front is tasked with harnessing this collective energy to build and defend the nation.

Former President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Huynh Dam said: "Since its inception, the Communist Party of Vietnam has recognized that the success of the revolutionary cause depends on harnessing the strength of the entire nation and relying on the people. These principles have been preserved, expanded, and continuously perfected over time. National unity remains the decisive factor for the sustainable victory of Vietnam's revolution."

Promoting national unity in the rising era

Modern Vietnamese history is marked by significant milestones in national construction and defense. The era of independence and freedom began in 1945, followed by the era of national renewal and development. After nearly 40 years of national renewal, Vietnam has become one of the 40 largest economies globally by GDP, ranks among the top 20 global trade markets, and leads in Human Development Index (HDI) and innovation among its peer group of developing economies. Such significant achievements have created a solid foundation for Vietnam to enter a new phase—the era of national rise.

At the 13th National Party Congress in 2021, the Party set an ambitious goal of making Vietnam a developed, high-income country by 2045. To this end, it’s important to mobilize the collective effort of the entire Party and the people.

Speaking at a press conference on August 3 in Hanoi, shortly after being elected General Secretary by the 13th Party Central Committee, President To Lam said: "It’s important to promote the strength of national solidarity in national construction and defense. We need to be consistent with the view and principle that "the people are the root" and “the people are both the driving force and the core of the renewal process”. The goal is to ensure that all citizens benefit from the achievements of national renewal and development and live in a secure and safe environment, and that no one is left behind."

At the 10th Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, 2024-2029 term, the Front will deliver a strong message, calling on the people to embrace the spirit of self-reliance, resilience, and creativity, with the goal of "rich people, strong nation, democracy, equality, and civilization." By promoting the strength of national solidarity and working together, Vietnam will confidently advance into this new era of national rise.
