(VOVWORLD) - In Quang Tri province, fishermen are preparing to head out for the final fishing session of the lunar year 2024. At fishing ports, boats loaded with fresh seafood signal a prosperous Tet holiday.
After a 10-day fishing trip near Hoang Sa island district, a vessel returned to Bac Cua Viet fishing port in Gio Linh district with 1.5 tons of mackerel, tuna, and other seafood. Nguyen Van Hoang, a fisherman on the boat, said that, after selling all the seafood, they’ll gather fuel, ice, and food for the final fishing trip of the lunar year.
"On this fishing trip, we’ll do our best to earn enough to celebrate Tet with our families. We hope for calm weather and a peaceful sea to end the year on a high note with a bountiful catch," he said.
Bac Cua Viet fishing port is buzzing as ships dock and quickly return to sea. In recent days, the port, a hub for fishermen from Quang Tri and nearby provinces, has seen an increase in vessels.
"We’re hoping for calm seas so our team can safely earn enough money for Tet. We strictly follow regulations, keeping our route monitors active and fishing within legal boundaries. All is to ensure safety for everyone on board," Pham Thin, captain of a fishing boat from Hue City, said.

To support safe and efficient fishing, Quang Tri’s agricultural sector has worked with local authorities to enhance awareness and enforce rules against illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
In 2024, Quang Tri achieved an aquaculture output of 38,000 tonnes, up 3.6% from the previous year. This year it aims to provide better weather forecasting, share information on fishing grounds and markets, help fishermen fish effectively, and encourage them to upgrade their vessels for greater capacity and invest in modern technology and safety equipment to ensure the quality of catches and the safety of those working at sea.
