Using remote sensing technology to monitor ocean waste for Con Dao district

(VOVWORLD) - Ba Ria-Vung Tau province’s Department of Science of Technology is working with scientists from Mien Dong University of Technology in Dong Nai province on a project called "Application of remote sensing technology to monitor ocean waste and build an offshore collection system for the sea area of Con Dao district, Ba Ria-Vung Tau province".

The project aims to deal with marine environmental pollution in Con Dao, protect the diversity of Con Dao’s marine ecosystem, which has been ranked 2nd in the top 9 pristine islands by British magazine Time Out, and contribute to Con Dao’s circular economy development project.

Mr. Pham Van Song, head of the Mien Dong University of Technology, the project leader, said the university’s scientists will use modern technologies such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), satellite image analysis, and artificial intelligence (AI) to track, classify and predict the movement of waste at sea and build a mathematical model that simulates the hydrological and dynamic conditions of the area, which will help scientists make accurate predictions and devise appropriate solutions.
