The August Revolution was one of the great triumphs of the Vietnamese Revolution in the 20th century. It is a testament to Vietnam’s collective strength, intelligence, and spirit in the Ho Chi Minh era under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
Ushering Vietnam into a new era
Under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh, the Vietnamese people united in a nationwide uprising to wrest back power. In just 15 days at the end of August 1945, the uprising achieved complete success with power returned to the people.
The victory marked the beginning of a new era for Vietnam: an era of national independence linked with socialism. The Vietnamese people transitioned from being oppressed to becoming masters of their country and their future. President Ho Chi Minh said: "The August Revolution overthrew the monarchy of centuries, broke the colonial chains of nearly 100 years, returned the power to the people, and created a foundation for the Democratic Republic of Vietnam of independence, freedom, and happiness. It was an extremely great change in the history of our country."
The success of the August Revolution proved the soundness of the revolutionary path, the wise leadership, strategic vision, and timely action of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh.
The August Revolution also affirmed the power of national unity, patriotism, courage, intelligence, and the indomitable spirit of the Vietnamese people.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Manh Ha, former Director of the Institute of Party History, said: "With patriotism and a strong sense of consciousness of national mastery, tens of thousands of Vietnamese people were determined to mobilize all strength and forces and devoted their lives and property to protect freedom and independence. They made an oath to stay united with the government. This reflected the consensus and unity between the central and local levels, between the government and the people, and between the Party and the people."
Inspiring confidence and motivation for national development
Over the past 79 years, Vietnam has achieved significant and historic progress across all sectors. The national economy has grown steadily, transforming a poor, underdeveloped country into a middle-income developing nation. As outlined in the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, Vietnam aims to become a high-income developed country by 2045.
Vietnam has never had such fortune, potential, position, and international prestige as it does today after 38 years of implementing the Doi Moi (renewal) process. Vietnam is pushing forward with industrialization, modernization, and extensive international integration. Vietnam’s economy continues to grow steadily, people’s lives are improving, and national independence, sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity are being maintained. These achievements of historical significance are a testament to the enduring spirit of the 1945 oath of independence and a reflection of the Vietnamese people’s solidarity, will to overcome challenges, and aspiration for further development under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
Vietnam is currently intensifying efforts to implement the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and the 2021-2025 Socio-economic Development Plan and to achieve the strategic goals set by the 13th National Congress in order to create a solid foundation for the nation's future.

For the past 79 years, inspired by the spirit of the 1945 August Revolution, the Party, people, and army of Vietnam have been united in their determination to achieve new miracles in this new revolutionary stage and new era of the heroic Vietnamese nation.
