Binh Dinh province commemorates 60th anniversary of Lo Dieu Beach Historical Site
(VOVWORLD) - Binh Dinh province held a commemorative ceremony on Wednesday in Hoai Nhon town to mark the 60th anniversary of Lo Dieu Beach—the historic site where an “unnumbered ship” first docked to deliver weapons to the southern front.

Early on November 1, 1964, Ship No. 401, captained by Pham Van, arrived at Lo Dieu wharf carrying 30 tons of weapons and 6 tons of explosives for the revolutionary forces. By 8 a.m. the following morning, local soldiers, militia, and residents had successfully hidden the weapons. Unable to repair the severely damaged ship after it ran aground, Captain Pham Van courageously set it ablaze to avoid detection, sacrificing himself in the process. This was the first ship to open a port in Region 5 and the only unnumbered ship to dock in Binh Dinh’s coastal waters.
During the ceremony, the provincial leaders, soldiers, and local residents reflected on this historic event. Mr. Lam Hai Giang, Vice Chairman of the Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee, said the Lo Dieu Beach site now serves as a valuable landmark for educating the younger generation about the nation’s heroic past.
“The People’s Committee of Hoai Nhon district, along with local departments and organizations, plans to promote this site as an educational center and popular tourist destination. Efforts are underway to promote the site's legacy through media and digital platforms, inspiring young people and citizens nationwide,” said Giang.
