(VOVWORLD) - Science and technology development, innovation, and digital transformation are identified as key breakthroughs and the main driving forces to propel Vietnam into a new era. The Politburo’s Resolution 57 issued in last month and the National Conference on Science, Technology, Innovation, and Digital Transformation on Monday underscore the importance of science and technology development in shaping Vietnam's future development.
Mapping out Vietnam's path for science and technology development and innovation with breakthrough solutions will help tackle bottlenecks, unleash creativity, and optimize social resources for science and technology development while inspiring scientists at home and overseas to contribute to the national advancement.
Strategic decisions, new thinking, and vision
Vietnamese leaders consider science, technology, and innovation to be the driving forces for sustainable growth in the new era. By 2030, Vietnam aims for its digital economy to constitute at least 30% of GDP, with a target of 50% by 2045, establishing itself as a regional and global digital technology hub.
Nguyen Xuan Thang, President of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, said: “The Resolution on science and technology development, innovation and digital transformation represents the Party’s strategic shift and new thinking to realize national development goals in the new period. 40 years of national renewal and development has created a foundation for new development. To achieve upper-middle-income status, we must create breakthroughs in the development of new productive forces and enhance productivity, quality, and efficiency. Only by doing so can we meet the demands of advancing and achieving national rise in this new era.
Vietnam will focus on improving infrastructure for science, technology, and digital transformation and strengthen the application of science, technology, and innovation throughout the political system. The Vietnamese leadership is determined to gradually master strategic technologies such as AI, Big Data, and Blockchain.
With its advantages, Vietnam aims to achieve technological autonomy, increase its technology competitiveness in some areas, and maximize its intellectuality while acquiring the world’s advanced technology. Vietnam will continue to strengthen multilateral and bilateral partnerships, promptly apply international achievements and experiences in alignment with Vietnam’s political, economic, cultural and social conditions, promote technology diplomacy, attract external resources, and contribute to ensuring economic security and enhancing technological autonomy.
Inspiring creativity and responsibility
Vietnam’s innovative policies in science and technology development are energizing scientists and intellectuals, particularly in the overseas Vietnamese community.
They highly appreciate the breakthroughs in piloting new projects, accepting risks, creating venture capital, increasing investment in science, technology, innovation and digital transformation, with the aim of spending 2% of GDP for research and development by 2030.
Many overseas Vietnamese shared their comments:
“I think this is a very progressive and necessary point to promote the innovation ecosystem in Vietnam.”
“I think this will motivate scientists to engage in scientific research and research on high-risk projects.”
“Due to many financial barriers, investment disbursement in scientific research has been delayed. Resolution 57 has resolved the constraints that have led to low investment in scientific research.
Party General Secretary To Lam’s leadership as Head of the Central Steering Committee for Science, Technology, Innovation, and Digital Transformation, alongside the establishment of a National Advisory Council with the participation of domestic and international experts, has bolstered confidence and encourage more scientists overseas to contribute to the development of the homeland.
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Huan, Chairman of the Association of Vietnamese Intellectuals in the UK and Ireland, said: “The General Secretary’s strong commitment will reinforce trust. The Advisory Council with the participation of international experts will create an opportunity for overseas intellectuals to turn to Vietnam and contribute to national development.”
At the national conference on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation on Monday in Hanoi, Vietnamese leaders once again reiterated their confidence and determination to boost science and technology development. Resolution 57 and the outcomes of the conference will be a firm foundation for Vietnam to embark on a breakthrough phase, striving for robust development and aiming to become a high-income, developed country by 2045.
