Central region overcomes flooding

(VOVWORLD) - Fundraising to help flood victims in central Vietnam is underway nationwide in response to the Prime Minister’s appeal. At least 88 people have died and around 53,000 families have been evacuated due to flooding and landslides in the region.

The Government Office on Monday held a fundraising event for flood victims attended by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Deputy Prime Ministers, and staff of the Office.

Minister and Head of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung called for support for the flood victims to help them restore production and stabilize their lives.

A similar event was held at the Voice of Vietnam the same day. VOV President Nguyen The Ky called on VOV’s staff, reporters, editors, technicians, and artists to donate a day’s salary to victims in Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue province. “We want to join with people nationwide to help flood victims who have suffered great losses in this disaster.”

On Saturday, VOV Vice President Vu Hai Quang gave the Fatherland Front of Thua Thien-Hue and Quang Tri province 8,700 USD each to help the flood victims.

Nguyen Nam Tien, President of the Thua Thien-Hue Fatherland Front, said: “On behalf of the provincial leaders, the Fatherland Front and the people of Thua Thien-Hue, I would like to thank VOV for their help for local flood victims. We appreciate your support which is a source of great encouragement in helping us overcome this disaster."

Bamboo Airways and Vietjet Air said they will transport free of charge aid packages for people in the flood-hit regions.

Vietnam Post promised to deliver free of charge aid packages to Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Quang Nam, and Thua Thien Hue province until the end of this month.

Individuals, organizations, and agencies nationwide have raised millions of USD for the flood victims.
