Copyright protection strengthened to promote creativity

(VOVWORLD) - The Vietnam Center for Protection of Music Copyright (VCPMC) is the sole copyright representative organization in Vietnam that has the right to represent and protect the rights of nearly 5 million composers to their works. Since its establishment in 2022, the Center has signed cooperation agreements with 86 collective rights management organizations in 154 countries and territories around the world.

The Vietnam Center for Protection of Music Copyright is an important agency for music composers and also for the protection of intellectual property in Vietnam.

The Center has full legal power and tools to operate professionally according to international standards. In addition to bringing financial benefits to domestic and foreign authors, the Center has regularly dealt with acts that infringe upon the moral and material rights of authors, coordinated with legal authorities to resolve its members’ complains, collected evidence of infringement, warned of violations, and applied administrative measures or court proceedings to protect authors’ legitimate rights and interests in the digital environment, especially on YouTube.

Doan Van Viet, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said protection of copyright and related rights will promote creativity, attract investment, and contribute to socio-economic and cultural development.

Mr. Viet said: "In order to enforce the Law on Intellectual Property and international treaties on copyright and related rights that Vietnam has signed, it’s necessary to fine tune the legal system and strengthen the capacity of authorities to manage and enforce copyright and related rights.":

Viet added: "We need to foster and train cadres at functional agencies, and invest in infrastructure to manage and enforce copyright and related rights in cyberspace. It’s also important to strengthen communications and dissemination of provisions of the Law on amending the Intellectual Property Law, and strengthen the handling of violations of copyright and related rights."

In 2021, the Vietnam Center for Protection of Music Copyright was ranked 4th in the Asia-Pacific region for its achievements in copyright and related rights protection by the Asia-Pacific Intellectual Property Agency.
