Europe implements clean air package

(VOVWORLD) - Despite a great effort to improve the atmosphere in urban areas, air pollution in Europe remains a threat to human health. Statistics show that every year some 500,000 Europeans die of diseases related to air pollution. Several EU members are carrying out plans to clean up their air.

Air samples tested between 2000 and 2014 in more than 400 cities within the European Union contained dangerous pollutants, including microscopic specks of dust, ozone, and nitrogen dioxide (NO2). These pollutants are causing health problems like asthma, cardiovascular disease, and cancer.

The Netherlands is one of leading countries in achieving its clean air goals. In Eindhoven City, air filtration systems set up in car parks hoover dust particles as small as 10 micrometers out of the air. Testing in car parks located under shopping malls and large buildings has showed air quality greatly improving.

Late last year, giant air filter systems were installed on the tops of buildings. Each machine can filter polluted air within a radius of 300 meters up to an altitude of 7 kilometers.

In London, air filtered houses are in great demand. Interior design firm Grosvenor Britain & Ireland has equipped a house at 119 Ebury Street with state-of-the-art clean air equipment to attract a rich buyer who is ready to spend millions of dollars to live in a century-old house with fresh air. Places like 119 Ebury Street are fetching up to 30% more than ordinary houses.
