Ho Chi Minh City youths active in volunteer campaigns

(VOVWORLD) - Ho Chi Minh city’s youths have launched the 2018 Voluntary Spring Campaign to mark the 50th anniversary of the 1968 Spring General Offensive. Taking place until next month, the campaign will involve 30,000 students.

The campaign volunteers will visit heroic Vietnamese mothers, social beneficiaries, disadvantaged children, the lonely elderly, and poor patients. They will also organize performances and exchanges with border and island soldiers. Duong Thi Thu Thuy of the Ho Chi Minh City National University: "We will organize an event with soldiers wrapping sticky rice cakes and making dried sweet ginger for Tet. We will give these treats to disadvantaged families.”

To mark the 50th anniversary of the 1968 Spring General Offensive, a program called “Historic Spring” will introduce books about the General Offensive. Volunteers will pay tribute to the Sai Gon Gia Dinh commandos and deliver gifts to families who supported the military campaign 50 years ago. Ong Thi Ngoc Linh leads up the voluntary program this year: "The Historic Spring activity is new. The program volunteers will visit historical relics related to the General Offensive and student movements.”

For the past 10 years, the Voluntary Spring Campaign has been connecting socially conscious young people and focusing their strength and enthusiasm.
