VOV President Do Tien Sy said that during its glorious history of 97 years, Vietnam’s revolutionary press has performed its role in shaping public opinion and vividly reporting on national resistance wars against colonialism and imperialism to defend the socialist state well. In the current period, the Vietnamese revolutionary press must demonstrate its responsibility to society and put the interests of the nation first.

Social responsibility of the press and journalists

Journalists need to ensure that their journalistic work reflects economic, political, and social issues in a way that makes life and society better. In the 4th Industrial Revolution, journalists should be aware of a higher social responsibility. They are responsible for reporting events in a timely manner, while ensuring accuracy, and a clear orientation.

VOV President Do Tien Sy said: “The public gets information from multiple sources. There is fake news which is created intentionally to divide, create misunderstandings, and seek personal gain. Journalists, with their skills and ability to access information must gave the public accurate, transparent, and objective information so that the public can have a more accurate view. VOV journalists take responsibility for their speech on social media. Recently VOV revised its code of ethics on social media for all VOV staff. We are aware that journalists’ voices have a great influence on the public.”

Digital transformation is an inevitable trend

Mr. Sy says digital transformation is an inevitable trend of press agencies, which helps them comprehensively change the way they operate.

VOV has paid special attention to digital transformation. As a multi-platform, multi-media, and multi-language media agency, VOV is striving to develop faster and more comprehensively. VOV has identified suitable technology and effective investment in equipment, and human resources as important factors in digital transformation.

President Do Tien Sy said: “VOV’s journalists, editors, and technicians have already changed their working methods and taken advantage of technology to report faster and more efficiently and optimize human resources. A journalist can use technology to get information, report from the scene, present news on multiple digital platforms, and collaborate with other units. It should pointed out that technological innovation and advanced equipment do not mean much if reporters and editors are not prepared to apply the new technologies.”

President Do Tien Sy said that no matter how technology develops and how helpful AI is to journalists, journalists themselves are the core. They need to work with a pure code of ethics and strong social responsibility to inform public opinion and lead people to truth, goodness, and beauty.
