Multiple ways to help people in central Vietnam recover from disaster

(VOVWORLD) -  In the past few days, Vietnam has seen an outpouring of sympathy for the victims of torrential rain and flooding in the central provinces. The government, businesses, social organizations, the international community, and Vietnamese citizens at home and abroad have donated money to help the victims.

The Son La provincial Red Cross Society launched a drive to make 1,000 square sticky rice cakes for the victims involving hundreds of state officials, students,  soldiers, and ordinary people.

Tran Soi of the Safe Driving Association in Son La said that after one day, the Red Cross had received enough ingredients to make 2,200 cakes:

“Everyone is working hard to help the people in the central region. People who couldn’t come to make cakes have donated cash and kind,” said Soi.

The Vietnam Education Labor Confederation has called on trade unions nationwide to mobilize teachers and students to help victims in the central region. Vu Minh Duc, Chairman of the Confederation says many fundraising activities have been held in localities and schools.

The organization has sent equipment and supplies to the central region to help clean up flooded schools. Duc said: "We want to help teachers and students resume schooling soon and study in a clean environment. We mobilized students in the north to donate school supplies, blankets, clothing, books, and toys. We will also use trade union funds to restore schools."

The State Bank of Vietnam has asked credit organizations to review losses suffered by their customers and make available prompt support. Measures under consideration include restructuring debts, waiving or reducing loan interest, and providing credit to help victims restore production.

During his visit to the flood-hit Quang Ninh province, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc praised people nationwide for sharing with losses suffered by people in central Vietnam. The Prime Minister asked localities and sectors to create favorable conditions for donors to deliver aid packages.
