In recent years between 300 and 500 overseas Vietnamese have returned home each year. Last year overseas remittances totaled nearly 16 billion USD, 100 times the total in 1993. Investment of overseas remittances in 3,000 projects has contributed to national growth.

Overseas Vietnamese resources respected

At a meeting with overseas Vietnamese last week, Party leader and President Nguyen Phu Trong attributed Vietnam’s remarkable achievements last year to national unity, high social consensus, and a joint effort by the whole political system, the public, and overseas Vietnamese. Mr. Trong said: “The Vietnamese Party and State appreciate overseas Vietnamese scientists for helping Vietnam access the world’s advanced science and technology in the context of the 4th Industrial Revolution.”

Overseas Vietnamese businesses, associations, and networks have helped Vietnamese products penetrate the global market and lure multinational companies to invest in Vietnam. The Vietnamese community  abroad is also an important catalyst for Vietnam’s success in people-to-people diplomacy.

At a meeting with overseas Vietnamese last Saturday, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said the Vietnamese government always listens to and respects the opinions  of overseas Vietnamese on national development.

In the past few days many localities have organized meetings with overseas Vietnamese to boost exchanges between Vietnamese people inside and outside Vietnam and encourage overseas Vietnamese to seek opportunities in their country of origin.

Enthusiastic response of overseas Vietnamese

Overseas Vietnamese have pledged greater contributions to contribute to national development. Vietnamese-Canadian Kim Bo Ngo said: “Vietnam offers a lot of business opportunities. Young people like me can help link Vietnam with the world. I’m really happy to go home and contribute to the homeland’s development.”

Ho Van Lam, President of the Thailand-Vietnam Business Association and Vice President of the Overseas Vietnamese Business Association, said: “The Thailand-Vietnam Business Association is ready to help Vietnamese localities and enterprises seek business opportunities and introduce their products in Thailand.”

Vietnam’s achievements in 2018 demonstrated the strength of national unity. The Vietnamese Party and State pledge to continue to encourage overseas Vietnamese to contribute to Vietnam’s national development.
