Quang Nam Heritage Festival

(VOVWORLD) - The 6th Quang Nam Heritage Festival 2017 themed “Quang Nam – A journey of heritage connectivity” will open on June 9 in the coastal city of Tam Ky, Quang Nam province.

Since the first Quang Nam Heritage Festival in 2003, the local culture, landscape, and people have become better known in Vietnam and worldwide. This year’s festival is organized by the provincial People’s Committee, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, and the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO. From May 9 to June 14 there will be 22 culture, sports, and tourist activities at world heritage sites, traditional craft villages, and public areas. Le Van Thanh is Vice Chairman of the Quang Nam People’s Committee as well as Head of the Organizing Board: “This festival aims to promote the culture of Quang Nam and share experience in heritage management. Once Quang Nam's tourism trademark and image are strongly established, we will attract more tourists and investors.”

The festival began with an “international choir” competition in Hoi An that involved 1,500 performers from 15 countries and territories. There will also be an international food festival, a silk and brocade fashion show, a “Ginseng of Ngoc Linh Mountain” festival, and a bamboo pole ritual performed by Vietnamese ethnic groups. An international kite festival featuring amazing kites made by 90 Vietnamese and 28 foreign kite artisans from 12 countries will take place from June 8 to June 11 in Hoi An and Tam Ky city. Huynh Vinh Ai, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, said: “The festival is fascinating. It highlights both tangible and intangible cultural heritages. The programs are well organized. We applaud Quang Nam for hosting 6 festivals and working closely with the other 10 participating provinces.”
